ABOUT THE AUTHOR "Solid As A Rock "I" Stand by Luella Hill is her third published book of poetry. Her words are but a glimpse of a source, that flows from the heart of human consciousness. The power of words, as she calls it, are a collage of thoughts in effect tempered by the bitter and sweet dilemmas and dramas that are a path of the Black Experience in America. Ms. Hill’s collection was inspired by the deaths of her mother (Rosie Lee Allina) and sister (Ethel Mae Love) which occurred seven months of each other. The adversities that have befallen Ms. Hill have been the seed to higher achievement. Born in Madison County, Mississippi and abandoned by her mother at the age of three, she was placed in a foster home with an abusive alcoholic woman and lived as a battered child for five years. At the age of eight, her father gained custody of her and appointed her older sister as legal guardian. Now living in California with her family, she kindled the sparks of her spiritual strength, and as she grew, renewed her trust in people. In the solitude of her writing, she found power and knowledge in her own words. Her experiences have given her an increased passion for human dignity, thus realizing her heart and consciousness are one. Ms. Hill is self-taught poet, whose poetry flow with smoothness of jazz and is contemporary as Hip-Hop. Her verses are keenly woven stanzas that set forth the metaphor in which she examines today’s social pressures speaking straight from the heart of the Black Experience. Ms. Hill is the proud recipient of several awards including: - 1994 Best Book of the Year Award
- Certificate of Recognition from International Black Writer
- "Outstanding Poet Award" by the City of Oakland, California
